Please ensure that the spelling of the name in which you book your test matches exactly the spelling of your name on the ID you will present at the test centre and the spelling of the name on the “ESDS Theory Test Acknowledgement Email” which you will have received from the RSA. If it does not match, you will not be permitted to sit your test, you will lose your fee paid and will have to pay again.

Only valid (in date) and original documents in good condition will be accepted. Irish Passports will be accepted if they are in date, or expired by no more than one year. For example; if your Irish Passport expires on September 30th, 2014, it can still be used as proof of identification until September 30th, 2015.

Please note that if you do not bring the required identification with you or you are late for your appointment, you will not be permitted to sit your test, you will lose your fee paid and will have to pay again.

Acceptable Documents

You must bring the following acceptable proof of identification from this list with you:

  • All Passports (valid for international use only)* OR
  • A full Irish Driving Licence in any category or one from an EU/EEA Member State or from Switzerland PLUS
  • ESDS Theory Test Acknowledgement Email

* Care should be taken when reviewing passports submitted as photographic ID, to ensure that such documents are valid for international use and are not designated for internal use only. If a passport has such a designation it is not acceptable as photographic ID. Please confirm.
